Sceletium tortuosum, better known as kanna, is a folk remedy from South Africa which has been used for centuries for both its mood boosting and calming effects. Kanna is very effective at reducing anxiety, promoting relaxation, and a sense of calmness. These qualities of kanna have led it to gain worldwide recognition as an aid for for mental fatigue and nervous tension. In small amounts, kanna provides an energy boost, improved mental clarity and better focus. In larger amounts, these effects change to both mental and physical relaxation and comfort. In both cases, mood is improved and day-to-day stress levels are reduced.
Kratora’s kanna 10x extract is a very potent 10:1 powdered extract made from superior grade dried kanna. This means that 1 gram of this extract is equal in potency to 10 grams of the whole kanna herb.
The US FDA has not approved this herb to be sold for internal use. Sold for external use only.

Kanna, also known as “channa” or “canna”, is the name given by the he Hottentots and the San tribes from South Africa to the succulent sceletium tortuosum plant. When the Dutch arrived in South Africa they called the plant “kugoed”, which means “chewable”.
Throughout the centuries, these tribes have used the kanna as a way to fight anxiety, to boost up the mood or to recover after a battle. Kanna is also well known for its stimulant and antidepressant effects.
Kanna is available in South Africa as a commercial product. While African tribes traditionally chew kanna, it can also be smoked, snuffed or drunk as a tea.
Kanna 10x is ten times stronger than the normal kanna.
As kanna contains mesembrine, an alkaloid that acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, it cannot be used together with SSRIs (like fluoxetine, escitalopram or paroxetine) or with MAOIs (like selegiline, isocarboxazid or selegiline). Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
History & Traditional Use
Kanna 10x extract is ten times stronger than normal kanna. Thanks to its active ingredientes, alkaloikds mesembrine, mesembrenone, mesembrenol and tortuosamine, kanna is known to improve mood, relieve stress or reduce anxiety. It is also used as a natural antidepressant.
Since mesembrine works as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, kanna should not be combined with SSRIs or MAOIs. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
In moderate doses, kanna improves your mood and boosts up your energy; it is also said to enhance your concentration levels. In higher doses it can lead to a total relaxation, both physical and mental, having even sedative effects. Its use has also been reported as an aid to quit alcoholism.
Kanna was often snuffed (or snorted). The effects of snuffing would come up very quickly, and would be noticed in a couple of minutes. By snuffing, the most the euphoric effects of the kanna were felt by its users. The effects can last up to 2 hours. However, its repeated use can harm the nostrils and cause nose-bleeding.
When chewed, kanna is said to have an anaesthetic effect and to reduce your appetite. It can also be used sublingual, that is, placing the kanna under the tongue and holding it there until it is absorbed. The dosage would be the same as when kanna is chewed and the effects last about two hours. This was the preferred method for moderate euphoria and discomfort relieving.
To enjoy the sedative, analgesic effects of the kanna, kanna tea was historically the elected method.
Kanna was also be smoked. The effects last about 2 hours, reaching its peak between 30 and 60 minutes after the start. Smoking kanna can have a “tipsy” effect (it is sometimes compared to marijuana) and is not so effective as analgesic or euphoria producer.
