The Best Naturally Calming Herbs

There are a number of kratom strains that are widely sought-after for their calming properties. Red vein kratom varieties have long been used by indigenous cultures in Southeast Asia to promote a calm state of mind, while reducing anxiety, and helping to relieve restlessness. At Kratora, we recently added a number of new products to our selection, with other botanicals and naturally calming herbs such as fermented kanna (sceletium tortuosum), kava extract, blue lotus flower powder, and blue lotus flower extract.

How Do Naturally Calming Herbs Work?

If you’re suffering from chronic stress or anxiety, you may be prompted to research your options, particularly when it comes to the natural herbs and botanicals that may be potentially beneficial. Common questions include, “Are there any natural anxiety remedies that work?” and “Can you use kratom for anxiety and stress?” There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but you can choose from a large variety of naturally calming herbs and botanicals — substances that are widely recognized for their calming, stress-relieving properties.

Anxiety, stress, agitation, and depression all have a physical and mental impact, which can range from increased tension and anxious feelings, to insomnia/sleep problems, depressed mood, and skewed chemistry in the brain. Naturally calming herbs contain a wide variety of different alkaloids and compounds that can act upon the physical manifestations of stress and anxiety, while also affecting neurotransmitters and brain chemistry. But each person’s experience is a bit unique, so therefore, the best herb, botanical, or natural remedy will vary from person to person. Studies examining the alkaloids and other active constituents found within kratom, kanna, kava, blue lotus, and other plants have revealed a fairly significant effect on brain chemistry and other areas of the body that are impacted by stress and anxiety. There have been numerous anecdotal reports of mood stabilization, stress relief, and anxiety relief associated with kratom and other plants, although there are some variables at play. This includes the amount/quantity and the way in which the substance is utilized.

Each person’s experience of stress and anxiety is unique, so there is no one-size-fits-all naturally calming herb, particularly when you account for the individual differences in terms of preference. For instance, some find that caffeine is a great stimulant, while others find that a cup of coffee makes them jittery and restless. What one person may find delightfully stimulating, another person may find annoying or unpleasant. For this reason, it’s wise to research and explore your options. But one thing is certain: many kratom enthusiasts and fans of botanicals have reported that kratom, kava, and blue lotus have very potent calming properties. Some even opt to use natural plants in place of prescription medications.

About Kratom’s Calming Properties

Native to Southeast Asia, kratom (mitragyna speciosa) is a member of the coffee tree family. The leaves have been used by native cultures for many generations, with each variety having its own unique properties. The three varieties are named for the color of the stem and leaf veins — green vein, white vein, and red vein — while the strains are named after regions where the kratom was first grown or sold. Kratom contains dozens of alkaloids, many of which act  upon the same areas of the brain that are impacted by potent medications, such as opiates.

All products sold on Kratora’s website is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition.  All of our products on this website are not sold for human consumption, and are for incense or ethnobotanical research purposes only.

Red vein kratom is regarded as the most effective calming kratom variety. Some especially popular varieties include red vein Kali kratom and red vein Sumatra kratom. Kratora now carries red vein Betuangie kratom too. This is a fairly new strain that originates from the jungles of Indonesia and it’s rapidly becoming a favorite for its calming (but not extremely sedative) properties.

Other Naturally Calming Herbs and Botanicals

Kratom isn’t the only plant that is regarded for its calming properties. There are lots of other substances that are well-known for the ability to promote calmness and good mood. Some of our other offerings include the following.

  • Kanna – Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) is a succulent that naturally grows in South Africa. For many generations, local African cultures have dried and chewed the kanna seeds to reduce anxiety and boost mood.
  • Fermented kanna – Fermented kanna is made from the same plant as typical kanna, except this variety undergoes a fermentation process that has been found to enhance its effects. Fermented kanna has stronger sedative effects which makes it a good choice for those seeking calming, relaxation and stress-relief.
  • Kava extract – Also known as kava kava root, the kava plant is native to the Pacific islands. Native generations have long used kava for its gentle calming and euphoric effects. Kava is traditionally blended into a drink which Pacific Islanders use as a natural remedy for stress and anxiety.
  • Blue lotus flower powder – The blue lotus flower (nymphaea caerulea) is known by a few names, including the blue water lily and the Egyptian lotus. This flower has been found to contain aporphine, a psychoactive alkaloid that can bring about feelings of calm, relaxation, and gentle euphoria.
  • Blue lotus flower extract – Blue lotus flower extract is derived from the same plant as our blue lotus powder. The difference is that the extract is prepared in a manner that makes it far more concentrated than the raw leaves.
